Why You All Up in My Cookie Space?
There’s an overwhelming force in New York City that both brings people together and pushes them toward complete and utter solitude. The result is this strange mix of hyper togetherness, loneliness, sadness and euphoria. And it’s so strong that it will lead you to eat three cookies before 10am. Two chocolate chip, amazing chocolate chip cookies, and one vegan maple pecan cookie.
I am obviously torn between the two needs - solitude and togetherness. So I eat sugary/salty snacks.
I never used to like cookies. Well I ate certain ones at Christmas and Easter. But that’s another story. I especially didn’t like chocolate chip cookies.
But now I am obsessed. While I like the doughy, barely cooked centers of the gargantuan chocolate chip cookies at Levain bakery, the chocolate used in Ruby et Violette’s cookies is superior. So, today, I ate two chocolate chunk cookies from
Ruby et Violette’s. And the aforementioned vegan maple pecan thingy from Whole Foods.
People swear by the simple Toll House recipe. But I must confess after having Willow’s Cook’s Illustrated’s chocolate chip cookies I believe those are superior. She says it’s all about the butter. And as a wise Chicagoan once said, "Everything is better with the butter."
